Due to sustained power outages at Lee Early College, Lee County High, Tramway, & Greenwood, students at those campuses will be released at 12 noon. School provided transportation will run at that time. If parents need to make alternative transportation arrangements, they should contact their school office ASAP.
Due to expected inclement weather this afternoon and evening, all after school activities have been cancelled for today.
Due to high winds, we have lost power at several schools. At this time, we do not plan to release students early given the current conditions. Power is estimated to be restored between 11-11:30am. We will continue to monitor conditions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
PURPLE STAR. Being our first school to earn the NC Department of Public Instruction’s Purple Star Award is not just an honor. It documents how J. Glenn Edwards Elementary has made a special commitment to serve military families and help their students thrive.
🪖 Providing stability for students’ often-chaotic lives is just one link between our schools and the United States military. Students are now preparing for public service in high school JROTC programs and several graduates now attend our nation’s service academies. #LCSthrive

Our area experiences a partial solar eclipse today from 1:57-4:28 pm. The maximum partial eclipse in Sanford is at 3:14 pm. A few reminders:
It is NEVER safe to look directly at the Sun. Looking at the Sun, even briefly, can cause permanent damage to your retinas and even blindness.
The only glasses which are safe for using are those labeled as ISO 12312-2 certified. Regular sunglasses, swimming goggles, smartphones, cameras, and telescopes are NOT safe for looking directly at the Sun.
Outdoor activities within LCS will be limited until after 4:30 p.m. Have fun and stay safe!
READY FOR “SLIME TIME!” It all looked like a super-fun TV show. Dramatic lighting. Neon toys. Even teachers getting drenched with slime. But Glow Getters Day at J. Glenn Edwards was serious, too. It celebrated student achievement and how everyone “glows” together.
💚 Principal Emily Mize says Glow Getters Day helps students get excited about coming to school every day, embracing the challenge of learning new things and pushing themselves to shine. It’s a truly entertaining way for everyone to thrive. #LCSthrive
SOUTHERN LEE ON STAGE. When Broadway, TV and film actor Vasthy Mompoint arrived to lead an acting workshop, it was more than helping theater students refine techniques and prepare for auditions. She was there to inspire young actors and help them thrive.
🎭 Students performed and broke down dramatic monologues, sang and reviewed musical theater numbers and even had the opportunity to audition for a private performing arts conservatory with campuses in Los Angeles and New York City. #LCSthrive
