
Today at the conclusion of our district-wide Principal Meeting, our principals were given the opportunity to "let their hair down" for a few minutes. Well, at least to glue some on their pumpkin, as they decorated pumpkins to celebrate fall and National Principal Month. Here are a few of our favorites from today!

On average, students who eat school breakfast have been shown to achieve 17.5% higher scores on standardized math tests and attend 1.5 more days of school each year. School breakfast is free to all students in LCS and grab-and-go service options are helping ensure that students arriving on a tight schedule still have the opportunity to benefit from this service. #LCSthrive

When children have access to healthier food choices at a young age, they are more likely to develop lifelong habits of making nutritious decisions. By providing balanced meals in school, we help set the foundation for brighter, healthier futures, both academically and physically. #LCSthrive

Even though students in traditional calendar schools were enjoying some much needed time away today, our staff stayed busy planning and training to best serve students when they return to campus next week.
Members of the LCS Student Services Department engaged in critical conversations surrounding data from the first quarter and discussed best practices for addressing the behavioral and mental health needs of our students. We are grateful for Detective Alan Schlitz from the Sanford Police Department who shared his expertise and experience to help our team know more about protecting students on the internet. #LCSthrive







Bragg Street Academy unveiled its newly refurbished Culinary Arts Classroom today with students, staff, and community dignitaries in attendance. The school completed the renovations thanks to the Innovative Partnership Grant which has provided over $800K of funding for projects like this one at the school. Congratulations to Southern Lee's Genesis Gonzalez on winning the Sandhills 3A Women's Tennis Singles Conference Championship! She faced her teammate Logan Hickman in the Finals and both girls advance to the NCHSAA 3A Regionals scheduled for next week in Burlington. #LCSthrive

Artstober is in full effect at the Lee Co. Board of Education Meeting! The Southern Lee Jazz Band performed "Fly Like an Eagle" made famous by Steve Miller Band & WB Wicker's Dance Class showed off a new step routine to celebrate the importance of arts education for all students.

Yesterday, Central Office & Exceptional Children district staff were able to surprise Mrs. Shani Whilby with the news that she is the Exceptional Children Educator of Excellence for LCS! Mrs. Whilby has been at BT Bullock as a speech language pathologist since 2010 and is passionate about helping students reach their full potential.
