Lee County Schools offers education-based athletic opportunities for students in Middle and High School that are designed to connect students and athletes to their school communities fostering greater academic, physical, mental, and socio-emotional learning. We believe that these deeper connections prepare student-athletes to compete and thrive in all areas of their lives.

We are committed to building strong sportsmanship, instilling character, responsibility, and a strong work ethic. We are also committed to growing students' ability to function in a team environment by developing respect for all individuals, personal integrity, and learning to win with grace while losing with dignity.

Student Requirements for Participation

Lee County Schools use Dragonfly for athletic eligibility management. All required forms can be found in an electronic version through the Dragonfly platform. To register your account with Dragonfly, follow the steps found here.

Academic & Attendance Requirements

Lee County Schools complies with the NC State Board of Education and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) academic and attendance requirements for eligibility to participate in interscholastic athletics. In general, students must pass 70% of their courses in the semester prior to participation in athletics. Students entering the sixth grade or ninth grade are exempt from that requirement.

Beginning with the second semester of 2024-2025, students must also meet the state attendance requirement of being present at least 85% of instructional days in the previous semester to be eligible. This means that students can miss no more than 12 instructional days to maintain their eligibility for the following semester. Please contact your school's athletic director if you have questions about these policies.

Pre-Participation Physical Exam

All student-athletes must undergo a physical exam prior to participation in interscholastic athletic competition or practice. This exam must be conducted by a licensed medical provider and a copy of this exam must be provided to the school to be kept on file.

Lee County Schools has partnered with Goshen Medical Center to provide free sports physicals for student-athletes at various times prior to the start of the fall and spring sports seasons. Contact your athletic director or coach for more information on the next time free athletic physicals will be offered on our campuses.

Concussion Education & Forms

Lee County Schools complies with the Gfeller-Waller Concussion Awareness Act and requires that parents, student-athletes, coaches, administrators, trainers, first responders and other personnel involved in athletics receive education on the signs and symptoms of a concussion prior to beginning practice each year. Each party must sign and return the Gfeller-Waller Concussion Statement Form before a student-athlete may begin participation in athletics.
