2025-2026 Approved Calendars: Traditional | Tramway | LEC
SANFORD, NC – The Lee County Board of Education adopted school calendars for the district at their February 2024 Regular Meeting. For the first time, the district adopted a calendar for the next two academic years.
“Ultimately, we want to do what is best for kids, so we wanted to provide families with an opportunity to plan ahead. Knowing when their children will be in school well in advance of vacation and family planning should help everyone in our community,” said Superintendent Dr. Chris Dossenbach. “It is our plan to continue working a full year in advance, discussing and adopting the 2026-2027 calendar during the next school year.”
The 2024-2025 Traditional Calendar, which impacts all schools in the district with the exceptions of Lee Early College and Tramway Elementary School, will have students return from summer break on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. The final day of school for the year will be on Friday, May 23, 2025, just ahead of Memorial Day weekend. Graduation exercises for the Class of 2025 of Lee County High and Southern Lee High will be conducted on May 29th and 30th, respectively.
Tramway Elementary’s Year-Round Calendar looks quite different from the other two district calendars. Tigershark students start the year on July 15, 2024, ending on the same day as the Traditional Calendar, Friday, May 23, 2025. Tramway fall intercession is scheduled for September 16th through October 4th in 2024.
Students and staff on the Traditional Calendar will enjoy a full two-week break over the Christmas holiday, with classes wrapping up for the first semester on Friday, December 20, 2024, and returning to session on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
Tramway Elementary will jump back into session on Monday, January 6th following the holiday break. However, they will enjoy an extra two days on the front end of the Christmas holiday, with the school out of session on December 19th and 20th. Lee Early College students will enjoy one extra day out of class on January 7th before returning to campus on the 8th.
Spring Break will see students out of session from Monday, April 14th and returning to classes on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at traditional calendar schools and Lee Early College. Tramway’s spring intercession will be split with students taking two weeks of their three week break from March 10-21, 2025 and getting an additional week of spring holiday from April 14-18.
The Board also adopted the calendar for 2025-2026, which calls for students to start on the second Wednesday of August (August 14th) and end the Friday prior to the Memorial Day holiday. The calendars for 2025-2026 mirror those approved for 2024-2025 with some adjustments to the Spring Break to coincide with Easter.
It is important to note that the Board of Education can revisit the calendars that have been approved if the need to adjust one or all arises. One particular note about the Lee Early College Calendar for 2025-2026 is that it must align with Central Carolina Community College’s academic calendar, which has not been approved yet.
