8th Grade ELA students just wrapped up a powerful collaborative project for Black History Month, diving deep into the lives of diverse American figures. Together, they crafted a stunning Black History Month quilt, celebrating the richness of our shared history.

Today, 7th graders at East Lee Middle School dove into a pond water lab, uncovering tiny wonders like protists. These hands-on experiences spark curiosity and lay the foundation for future careers, like microbiology. Who knows what discoveries lie ahead for these budding scientists?

Don't miss the chance to admire the incredible artwork of 7th Grade East Lee Middle School student, Jason Medrano Fuentes, at the Temple Theater located at 120 Carthage St, Sanford, NC. Jason's art, along with pieces from other talented artists from across Lee County Schools, is on display until March 11th. Drop by and show your support for our budding artists!

Our 8th-grade Language Arts students have just completed reading the powerful and thought-provoking "Diary of Anne Frank." Now, they're delving deeper into Anne's story by working on AVID one pagers about her. Anne Frank was a courageous young girl who, along with her family, hid from the Nazis during the Holocaust. Her diary, written while in hiding, gives us a glimpse into the challenges, fears, and hopes she faced during one of the darkest periods in history.
Studying Anne Frank's story is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it serves as a poignant reminder of the atrocities of the Holocaust and the importance of never forgetting the human cost of hatred and discrimination. Secondly, Anne's resilience and optimism in the face of adversity inspire us to persevere in difficult times and find hope even in the darkest of circumstances. Lastly, her diary provides valuable insights into the lived experiences of individuals during the Holocaust, fostering empathy and understanding among students.
We're immensely proud of our students for engaging with such an important piece of literature and history, and for their dedication to empathy and understanding. Stay tuned to see their AVID one pagers and the insights they've gained from studying Anne Frank's remarkable story!
