Dear Parents and Guardians,
At West Lee Middle School, the safety and well-being of our students and staff are always our top priorities. As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment, we wanted to inform you about a safety initiative that was conducted today.
On February 28, 2025, we conducted a routine safety check in collaboration with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department. This check involved the use of the department’s trained canine unit to assist in ensuring that our campus remains free of prohibited items.
The canine unit conducted a sweep of school property, student personal items, common areas, and parking lots. Classroom interruptions were limited, and the safety check was conducted in a manner to minimize disruption to the school day.
We believe that proactive measures like these help foster a safe and respectful environment for everyone at West Lee Middle School. If you have any questions or concerns about this safety check, please feel free to contact the school office at 919-775-7351 or email us at aimeepetrarca@lee.k12.nc.us.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create a positive and secure atmosphere for our students to learn and thrive.
Sincerely,
Aimee Petrarca, Principal

Good morning West Lee Families.
At 8:45 this morning, I will be placing our school on a soft lockdown to conduct a drill and safety initiative. Classroom activities will go on as scheduled, and this will only limit movement within the building. I will send a follow-up message when the drill is completed. Have a wonderful day.
Principal Petrarca
