SANFORD, NC - Part professional development conference and part family reunion, Lee County Schools’ third annual Accelerate Learning Conference wrapped up on Wednesday, helping to jumpstart teacher and administrator preparations for the upcoming school year.

Director of Multilingual Learning and Support, Angel Mills, discusses challenges faced by multilingual learners in Lee County classrooms.

Over 300 teachers and administrators from across the district participated in the annual event, engaging in a wide variety of professional development sessions specifically tailored to drive student performance and develop a shared vision for the district.

Administrators from SanLee Middle School, Christina Reed and Arlene Grady discuss strengths and opportunities for growth during the administrator retreat at Accelerate Learning Conference.“Accelerate Learning Conference is a targeted time for our district to invest in the people that drive student achievement - our teachers and administrators,” said Superintendent Dr. Chris Dossenbach. “Our teachers and administrators have a lot of important jobs to do in their school building each day. So, Accelerate Learning is a rare opportunity for us to bring the whole Lee County Schools family together and focus on crafting a shared vision for our district while sharing experiences and tools that help sharpen our skills in educating young people.”

As the keynote speaker on Wednesday morning, Dossenbach challenged his staff to build relationships so that discipline can be maintained and the curriculum can be accessed by all students in the classroom. “Without taking the time to build relationships with our students, their parents and the community, we will fall short of our goal to help students grasp the full breadth of the curriculum we have to teach. It is critical for the success of our city, country and nation that each person in the community supports the district’s mission of educating the next generation of citizens, leaders and difference makers.”BT Bullock teacher Marjorie Johnson looks over Ingram teacher Natalder Butler's shoulder as the pair work on differentiated learning plans for AIG students.
