The Southern Lee book club, under the leadership of Ms. Guin, achieved their third consecutive victory in the High School Battle of the Books (HBOB) competition on Friday, April 4th, hosted at Lee County High School. The Cavaliers achieved remarkable success in this year's Battle of the Books competition, showcasing their dedication, teamwork, and love for reading.
In the final round, Southern Lee faced off against Lee Early College, successfully answering all six questions correctly. They earned an additional one and a half points when LEC missed one of their questions, culminating in a final score of 19.5 to 15. The team impressed judges with their quick thinking, deep understanding of the texts, and strong collaboration.
This marks only the third year that high schools have participated in this event, and Southern Lee has consistently excelled each year! Seniors Gina DeCerbo and Olivia O'Shaughnessy have been part of the team since its inception. They welcomed senior Jaquelin Martinez last year, while this year's juniors, Alana Clemmer and Elliott Bouwman, completed the team.
Congratulations to the Southern Lee Book Club! This achievement not only highlights their academic excellence but also strengthens the Southern Lee’s reputation for fostering a vibrant and intellectually curious student body.
