Let’s catch up a new Cavalier, Ms. Rebecca Babcock. If you’re an athlete, you already know her but we wanted to introduce the entire school to our new Athletic Trainer.
She graduatedfrom Meredith College and majored in Exercise Sport Science with a concentration in Health and Wellness. She chose Meredith (Amy Lundy is also an alumna) because it had smaller class sizes and allowed me to be really involved with the college's opportunities. With the smaller campus she was given a better teacher-to-student ratio, as well as fostered many lifelong friendships at the all-female private college.
This is her first job in education as she spent the first ten years after college in the corporate wellness field. To relax she will read, sit in a sauna, or go for a run/gym. Her favorite genre is horror/thriller books. She’s definitely a “beach” girl and loved living in South Florida shortly after college. Her physical favorites include hiking, indoor cycling, Pilates and going to the gym.
If you see her out in the community, she may be eating her favorite foods macaroni and cheese or Brussel sprouts. Whenever she hears Misery Business by Paramore, that brings her back to the Class of 2012. Her last binge watch was Selling Sunset on Neflix and provided her lots of amazing houses and fashion to see. She feels right at home at Southern Lee and enjoys seeing her former West Lee teachers like Shanna Roberts and Robin Showalter. Lindsey Lohan would play her in a movie with the same long auburn hair.
When asked when she got the spark to look into education she noted “I wanted to make an impact and inspire future sport science/kinesiology professionals. There are so many job opportunities that I didn't realize existed when I was in high school and even college. I feel being able to learn more about the topic will spark interest and bring more people into the field.” She’s excited about growing the love of physical therapy and treating athletes. But with her wedding approaching in 2025, you’ll have to call her Mrs. Fisher instead of Ms. Babcock.
