The ELD (English Language Development) Recognition Award (ERA) acknowledges and celebrates the demonstrated excellence exhibited by ESL (English as a Second Language) educators in their teaching practices. Through this recognition, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Multilingual Learner/Title III team seeks to highlight and honor the significant impact these professionals have on multilingual learners across the state. Our wonderful ESL teacher, Ms. De Avila, had the honor of receiving this award in September and left a few remarks on the reward.
“I am super excited about this award! It’s so honorable to be the first teacher to receive this recognition statewide; it is opening many doors and opportunities not just for me but for the ESL department as a whole. I was invited to be recognized by the NC State Board of Education at their Sept. meeting at NCDPI. My colleagues are just as inspired and thrilled as I am. We're starting to collaborate with the San Lee Spanish department to spread information to parents.”
Mrs. De Avila’s bright personality strengthens her students and motivates them each day! Outside her classroom, she is actively pushing and enhancing Southern Lee’s ESL program and San Lee’s. Congratulations, Ms. De Avila!
