SANFORD, NC – Following the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday night, Superintendent Dr. Chris Dossenbach announced administrative changes at both traditional high schools for the 2024-2025 school year.
Deep River Elementary Principal Amy Lundy has been appointed the principal of Southern Lee High School, bringing 18 years of administrative experience and a proven track record of academic success to her new role.
While Lundy’s background primarily lies in elementary education, her deep understanding of organization, instruction and effective teaching transcends grade levels. Throughout her career, Lundy has consistently demonstrated a unique ability to connect with all students, parents and faculty members and has used those connections to drive school-wide improvement.
In announcing Lundy’s new role, Dossenbach said, “Amy’s outstanding leadership qualities, coupled with her unwavering dedication to student success, make her the perfect candidate for this position. There is no doubt that she will be greatly missed at Deep River but I am excited for the 1,200 students she will be able to pour into each and every day as she prepares them for life beyond high school.”
East Lee Middle School Principal Robert Newby has been appointed the principal of Lee County High School, after serving the district in various roles for over 30 years, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience.
“Moving to Lee County High is a return home for Robert, having previously served as one of the school’s assistant principals for seven years. During his tenure at East Lee Middle, he led the school to strong academic growth and transformed the culture of the school with the support of the faculty, parents and students,” said Dossenbach. “I am confident he will use his proven formula of success to quickly move Lee County High forward towards academic excellence and create a school environment that allows students to thrive.”
Lundy and Newby will begin their new roles on July 1. The principal searches at Deep River Elementary and East Lee Middle will begin immediately.
