School Counselor

Hello Gator Families! My name is Lauren Oldham and I am the school counselor here at Deep River. I graduated from East Carolina University with my master’s in counselor education this past May. Before that, I went to NC State and earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology. I am very excited to begin my first year as a school counselor! I look forward to working with students, families, and staff to help students reach their goals.

As a school counselor, my role is to enhance the cognitive, social-emotional, and career development of students. I work with students individually, in small groups, and in whole classroom settings. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel safe and welcome. My goal is to provide students with support and materials to help them thrive inside and outside of the classroom.

Students, parents, and staff can fill out this referral form to request counseling services.

School Social Worker

Hi! I’m Brooke Hartson, the School Social Worker at Deep River Elementary. As a school social worker, I support the academic and emotional needs of students. I assist students and their families in overcoming barriers to education by connecting them to resources within the school and the community. I assist with student enrollment, provide McKinney Vento services to families that have been displaced from their permanent residence (Families in Transition), and address chronic absenteeism. I also help to improve the communication between families and the school by conferencing with families and making home visits.
