Amy lundy

For 23 years Amy Lundy has served the students and the community in Lee County as an educator. For the last 14 years, she has been an award-winning principal at Deep River Elementary School, serving as the Assistant Principal for an additional four years prior to that.

Lundy has a stellar track record of student performance and staff development, including helping lead Deep River to exceed growth in each of the last five years where the state has measured it dating back to 2018.

This year, she decided to tackle a new challenge and has accepted the position as Principal of Southern Lee High School. Take a few minutes to catch up with a very familiar face to many across out county who is taking on challenges at a new place this year.

What was it about this new opportunity that drew you to Southern Lee?

I have always loved the elementary level, but this summer, I feel God called me to Southern Lee.  For whatever purpose, I wanted to be obedient.  It has been a great honor and joy to lead this wonderful school.

What has been the most surprising thing about your new role?

One of the most surprising things about being the principal of a high school has been the excitement for learning from the students and staff and the opportunities our students have beyond just academics.  The extracurricular opportunities in high school make me proud of what Lee County is offering our students.

What has been the most challenging adjustment to your new building and role?

My most challenging adjustment is building relationships with my students and staff.  I had been at Deep River so long, I had developed some strong relationships with my students, staff and families.  I am starting over and building new relationships with the students, families and staff at Southern Lee.  It has been exciting to get to know new people.

Sometimes a new or fresh set of eyes can be really helpful to see things from a different perspective. What have you found to be most encouraging in your first few weeks at Southern Lee?

I have been encouraged by how open the staff has been to change. There are so many great things about Southern, but we are challenging each other to think about things in new ways to make it the best school.  This goes for the staff and the students.  Our students have so many great ideas and I want to support them in making those ideas come to life.  #challengeaccepted
