SANFORD, NC - Six seniors at Bragg Street Academy got to feel something typically reserved for students receiving athletic scholarship offers. The Bragg Street Class of 2024 were in the spotlight for the school’s first “Signing Day Ceremony,” as they made their commitments to continue bettering themselves in the next chapter of their lives.

Four of this year’s seniors “signed” with Central Carolina Community College, preparing to participate in a diverse range of programs like Laser and Photonics, Cosmetology, and HVAC/Refrigeration Services. President of CCCC, Dr. Lisa Chapman was on hand to encourage each student and participate in them signing their “letters of intent.” An additional two members of the Class of 2024 from Bragg Street, who were not present at today’s ceremony, will join their classmates at CCCC in the fall.

“The purpose of signing day here at Bragg Street is to give our seniors an opportunity to commit publicly to strive to be the best version of themselves they can be in the next chapter of their lives,” said Bragg Street Academy’s IPG School Coach, Cameron McNeill, who organized the event and is leading the effort to encourage and uplift BSA’s seniors during the school’s first Senior Week Celebration.

“Hosting a special event like our Commitment Day for senior students illustrates our firm belief in providing equal academic opportunities for all children, regardless of their circumstances. We are so thankful for our strong partnership with CCCC, which enables students to explore a variety of possibilities,” said Dr. Shannon Shuey, Principal of Bragg Street Academy.

While two seniors won’t be attending CCCC from this year’s class, they are moving on to other educational and career opportunities. One student, Shayla Aguirre, has elected to attend Pitt Community College to study Business Administration and Accounting. Another Class of 2024 grad, Pedro Gomez, will enlist in the United States Military.

“Every student's path to graduation is different,” said Dr. Chris Dossenbach, Superintendent of Lee County Schools, “that is why it is crucial for us to recognize each student for the unique challenges that they overcome to earn their diploma. The Class of 2024 at Bragg Street Academy is fully capable of contributing to our community, whether that be in an academic setting like CCCC, the military or the workforce. We are tremendously proud of each of them.”
