J. Glenn Edwards celebrates Glow Getters Day

Ms. Mize gets a slime bath as students celebrate achieving academic growth.J. Glenn Edwards students continued to shine brightly in the second quarter of the year. To help drive staff focus on the School Improvement Plan goals, Principal Emily Mize and her team established “mini-goals" from their beginning of the year data for each grade level in reading, math, and science. Though students do not know what those goals are, teachers and staff have worked alongside students to get them to their full potential.

Ms. Mize said, "Our theme all year has been 'Show up to Glow up.' Our whole school has really embraced that challenge, so I'm so proud of the staff and these students' hard work in the second quarter." Her pride is justified, each grade level hit at least one of their three mini goals, and are pushing themselves to achieve more this quarter.

So how do you throw a celebration at a school that is using a "Glowing" theme for the year? Of course, you celebrate with a neon-colored school assembly complete with glow sticks, dancing, and students dumping buckets of slime on their teachers!

We don't just celebrate to celebrate at J. Glenn Edwards," claimed Ms. Mize. "Our students and staff earned it," she noted as she wiped some slime off the bottoms of her feet.

Mize practices what she preaches at J. Glenn Edwards, and that is to work first, then play. She stresses to the children the importance of Business Mode vs Play mode. “Play is so important for children, but it is equally important that our students know when it is time to be serious and focused on their studies,” she emphasized.

"We want our students and staff to be excited about coming to school each day. We want them to embrace the challenges of learning new things and pushing themselves to truly shine. The “Glow Getters Day” Celebration is just one way we are building a culture of energetic and enthusiastic learners who will look forward to growth opportunities in their lives, even when that growth might be difficult," she explained.
