About Lee Early College
Located on the campus of Central Carolina Community College in partnership with Lee County Schools, Lee Early College High School (LEC) is an academically advanced public high school with more than 280 students in grades 9 through 12. Students who apply, and are accepted, have the opportunity to complete an Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), or Applied Associate of Science (AAS) degree by the time they graduate from high school. During their time at LEC, students will take a blend of high school and dual enrollment college courses that will allow them to earn both a high school diploma and a two year college degree. Lee Early College was founded with the intent of attracting students who often are underrepresented in college: minorities, students from low-income families and those whose parents never attended college.
The curriculum at Lee Early College is intended to prepare students for early undergraduate study. It is for that reason that the high school portion of our course of study focuses on traditional academic high school courses. These courses are delivered to students using a modified 4x4 block schedule. Teachers at Lee Early College are encouraged to embed high levels of rigor in all academic course work. Lee Early College faculty members help each student select a college degree program and enroll in appropriate courses. Each staff member has received training in the North Carolina New Schools Initiative concept, receives additional training each year, and works individually with each student assigned to them.
Each student is provided an education that is personalized to meet their needs and help them achieve their goals. All of our students are required to meet the standard testing requirements / curriculum as any North Carolina high school student. In addition to this standard all of our students are expected to graduate with a college grade point average that will allow them to transfer to a four year university.
Students begin by taking an accelerated curriculum of high school classes as well as a few college classes. As they progress through the program, they spend the majority of their time in college classes. In CCCC courses, Early College students are held to the same high standard as traditional community college students.
We expect LEC students to:
Maintain a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average
Take advantage of tutoring scheduled during the day and after school
Attend classes to be eligible for promotion
Be self disciplined
Follow all LEC and CCCC rules and regulations.
In return, LEC students become:
Collaborative critical thinkers
Effective communicators
Lifelong learners
Responsible citizens
Scholars
Technologically proficient
