Counselors Corner

Welcome to Broadway Elementary!

My name is Yolanda Womble and I am excited to be a Broadway Wildcat again! When I began working for Lee County Schools, I started here. My time began in 1999 through 2005. Currently I am a school counselor. I am married, and have three daughters, two sons, one is my son-in-love, and two granddaughters. I love being a Grammy, like the music awards.

I am a graduate from Central Carolina Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood. Later in life I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Services from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Currently, I am in the process of obtaining my Master’s Degree in School Counseling from North Carolina Central University.

I value relationships. I believe relationships involve building, listening, and authenticity. We are here on purpose, there is a plan for us, so let’s walk out the process. My goal is to continue to be an active listener and my heart statement is you matter.

Social Worker

My name is Tyshonne McSwain, I am the school social worker here at Broadway Elementary. I like to think of myself as the bridge between the school and the families. I work closely with students whose families are transitioning or don’t have stable housing. I also work closely with Attendance. Attendance is so important for students. I like to think of school as an unpaid internship for students. School isn’t only about making sure your student becomes educated, it is also about preparing them for the future. Students need a routine in order to thrive and be the best they can be. Morning, day, and night routines along with healthy sleeping patterns have been proven to be efficient with helping students get to school. As a school social worker I want to be able to support the needs of students and make sure they are coming to school.

Some policies every parent should be aware of

School Nurse

Hello Wildcats!

My name is Melanie, but I'm known by the students as Nurse Metz. I have been a Pediatric Nurse for over 10 years and I have been serving as the School Nurse for Broadway Elementary since 2021. I am a Nationally Certified School Nurse (NCSN) and I am incredibly passionate about my job and serving the students and families of the Broadway community. A little bit about myself, I am originally from Virginia, but my husband's job relocated our family to North Carolina. Although we really miss our families back home, we have grown to genuinely love the new area that we now call home. My husband and I have two incredible sons and when we're not spending the majority of our free time at sporting events, we enjoy traveling, exploring new places, and trying new restaurants. I am so honored to be a part of the Broadway community, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow as I serve the students and families of Broadway Elementary.
